LG Optimus L9 (T-Mobile)

T-Mobile is home to some excellent smartphones, like the Samsung Galaxy S III?and the Samsung Galaxy Note II, but they'll both cost you upwards of $300. That may not be much over the span of a two-year contract, but it's still a lot to throw down all at once. Then there are free phones, like the T-Mobile myTouch?and myTouch Q, which are perfectly decent starter phones, but are somewhat lacking compared with the competition. Thankfully, T-Mobile is bridging the gap with the $79.99 LG Optimus L9, a solid midrange smartphone that costs less than $100. It has an attractive display, a snappy processor, and good call quality. It's an excellent choice if you want high-end features on a modest budget.

Design, Network, and Call Quality
The Optimus L9 looks attractive, if somewhat generic. It's a black rectangular slab with a rubbery, lightly textured back panel. There's a plastic silver ring around the middle, and a black plastic ring around the display. It measures 5.19 by 2.69 by 0.36 inches (HWD) and weighs just 4.41 ounces. It's large, but easier to handle than the Galaxy S III or the mammoth Galaxy Note II. The width of the phone is very comfortable, but I still can't quite hold it in one hand and swipe the Notifications bar down from the top of the screen. There's a Power button on the upper right corner, a Volume rocker on the left, a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top, and a charging port on the bottom.

The L9 has a 4.5-inch, 960-by-540-pixel IPS LCD display. It's sharp and bright, and text and images look great. The resolution isn't as high as it is on the GSIII, but it also lacks the GSIII's PenTile pixel layout, which can cause images to look fuzzy on that phone. Below the display are capacitive Back and Settings buttons, on either side of the ovular physical Home key. Typing on the onscreen keyboard felt fine.

T-Mobile doesn't have LTE like AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon, but the carrier's HSPA+ 42 network is a still-speedy alternative. Unfortunately, the Optimus L9 hooks into the carrier's HSPA+ 21 network, not 42, so data speeds aren't as fast. Still, I saw average speeds of 6Mbps down and just over 1Mbps up, which should be plenty fast for most users. You can also use the phone as a mobile hotspot with the appropriate plan from T-Mobile, and it connects to 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi on the 2.4GHz band.

The Optimus L9 is a good voice phone. Reception is solid, and calls sound good in the phone's earpiece?voices are a little robotic and there's a slight hiss in the background, but are otherwise clear and easy to hear. The speakerphone sounds somewhat abrasive but it's loud enough to use outdoors. Calls made with the phone are loud and clear, though the noise cancellation caused a faint humming sound in the background. It also supports T-Mobile's UMA-based Wi-Fi calling, which is a great fallback in areas with less-than-optimal T-Mobile coverage and a good way to save some money on your phone plan.

I had no trouble connecting to a?Jawbone Era?Bluetooth headset and calls sounded fine through it. But I wasn't able to trigger voice dialing, over Bluetooth or anywhere else for that matter. The phone's 2,150mAh battery was good for a solid 9 hours and 49 minutes of continuous talk time.

Processor and Apps
The phone is powered by a dual-core 1GHz TI OMAP 4430 processor. That's not a processor we see often, especially now that Texas Instruments is?moving away from smartphones. It's not quite as fast as the dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm chips in many high-end phones, but it beats the pants off of any single-core smartphone out there, of which there are still plenty. Navigating my way around the phone felt smooth, and you've definitely got enough power here to run any of the 600,000+ apps available in the Google Play store.

Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is the version of the OS on board, along with LG's Optimus UI 3.0 overlay. There's no word on whether the phone will receive an upgrade to Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Thankfully, the phone is snappy and responsive, and LG's customizations are attractive. You get five customizable home screens to swipe between that come preloaded with apps, folders, and widgets. Unfortunately, bloatware runs rampant. You get nine pieces of bloatware from T-Mobile alone, and you can't delete any of it. You can disable it from showing up in your Apps menu, but that's it.

One cool feature you get is QuickMemo, which is a system-wide note taking service that lets you annotate screenshots with handwritten notes and sketches, which you can then share. You also get SmartShare, which lets you display music, photos, and video on your HDTV or monitor via DLNA. There's also the usual Android bells and whistles, including a fast Web browser, excellent email support, and voice-enabled, turn-by-turn GPS directions via Google Maps.

Multimedia and Conclusions
The Optimus L9 has 1.69GB of free internal storage, along with an empty microSD card slot underneath the battery cover. My 32 and 64GB SanDisk cards worked fine. The phone was able to play all of our audio test files, and sound quality was excellent over both wired 3.5mm headphones as well as?Altec Lansing BackBeat?Bluetooth headphones. All of our test videos played back without a hitch, at resolutions up to 1080p, though audio was out of sync over Bluetooth.

The 5-megapixel camera is surprisingly good. Shutter speeds are fast, at just 0.2 second to capture a photo. Colors and detail look accurate and sharp, though photos can get noisy if you zoom in too far. You get LG's Cheese Shutter, which allows you to snap a photo by saying the word cheese, which is good for when you want to get yourself into the picture. There's also a standard 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for self portraits and video chat.

The LG Optimus L9 isn't the biggest, baddest smartphone out there, but it plays an important role in T-Mobile's lineup. Sure, the Galaxy S III or the Galaxy Note II blow this phone out of the water?with bigger, higher-resolution displays, more powerful processors, and faster HSPA+ 42 data speed?but they also cost more than three times the price. For less than $100, the LG Optimus L9 gets you a great mix of features and performance. T-Mobile offers cheaper phones, like the myTouch series or the Samsung Exhibit II 4G?, but none of them can match the L9 on performance or quality. It still pays to check out what's on sale, but either way, the Optimus L9 is a bargain.

Membership Sites Blueprint : Internet Businesses Online

You are here: Home / General / Membership Sites Blueprint

Membership Sites BlueprintWith a blueprint which will show you how to create these membership sites in less than 7 minutes.

Sure it sounds like another load of Internet Marketing bull. ?Push button? products, ?Instant Riches? softwares, the list goes on and on. Products which will earn you millions of dollars with zero work, so long as you can press a button.

Now before you yawn and say "I?ve seen all of these before" or "Not another internet scam rebranded", let me tell you what this isn?t.

Because just like you, I?m tired of being pushed around, force fed and burnt by self titled internet gurus with their "Push Button Products", "Instant Riches Softwares"? the line of BS products just go on and on and on.

Think of the days before the internet. What a great business model did multi-million dollar companies adopt for recurring income?

Remember the days of the newspaper and magazines? I?m kidding, they do still exist but hey, what was their business model?

And what I?m going to show you is how to transform what you have right now, be it a website doing low 4 figures or a nonexistant page in the works, idea in your head type of thing, into a 5 figure monthly recurring income.

Over 5 years ago, I was in debt to the tune of $115, 232 from a combination of student loans and poor investments.

From my calculations, it would have taken me 18 years to pay off my loan and that was without taking into account inflation, buying a house or a car.

Until one day, I had an epiphany during one of my conversations with a mentor of mine. During a discussion about what was wrong with my business model and why it didn?t work for me, he told me ?Joon, don?t do what the gurus say, just do what the gurus do!?

I said to myself "forget what they teach and just do what they do" and started learning all the things they did themselves for all of their products.

I experimented with a ton of them, some worked, some were hit and miss but eventually, I came across a model which every single guru out there was using.

Imagine having money coming in on autopilot, EVERY month, EVERY year with minimal effort (and here, I?ll show you how to automate it so you can be sipping cocktails on a beach in Maldives without needing to worry about it!)

So I create multiple streams of income by having multiple membership sites, all of which run on autopilot. This brings in easily four to five figure paychecks every single month without fail. Each friggin? site.

And I?m confident you?ll be able to do it because you?ll be able to look over my shoulder to see how I get things done, easily, quickly and effortlessly.

Well, think of it this way. When a customer purchases from you in the "traditional" way, it?s a one off transaction. But with a?

NASA Plans for 3-D Printing Rocket Engine Parts Could Boost Larger Manufacturing Trend [Video]

The space agency is testing alternative manufacturing processes for faster, cheaper ways to make parts for its new Space Launch System

NASA,rocket, engine, spaceFROM DUST TO DUCT: Engineers at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., used the M2 Cusing Machine--a selective laser melting (SLM) device--to print a part for the J-2X rocket engine, part of the space agency's Space Launch System (SLS). Image: Courtesy of NASA/MSFC/Andy Hardin

There is a lot riding on NASA's Space Launch System (SLS). Not only does the agency's first new heavy-lift booster since the Saturn 5 that took U.S. astronauts to the moon play a central role in the future of the American spaceflight, it also provides a critical test for technology expected to figure prominently in revamping the country's ailing manufacturing industry.

NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., is testing an approach called selective laser melting (SLM) to create parts for the J-2X and RS-25 rocket engines that will power the SLS, whose maiden voyage is slated for 2017 (pdf). The space agency expects SLM to simplify the process of making certain parts and in some cases halve the cost of producing them?a huge advantage for NASA, provided the components can withstand the rigors of lifting the largest launch vehicle ever built into space.

The first version of the SLS is a 70-metric-ton rocket that will lift around 70,000 kilograms while providing 10 percent more thrust than the Saturn 5. This SLS will power the 2017 Exploration Mission 1, which will launch an unmanned Orion spacecraft on a circumlunar voyage as a precursor to Exploration Mission 2. That mission, scheduled for 2021, will use a 130-metric-ton version of the SLS to launch Orion and a crew of up to four astronauts. This second SLS will be capable of lifting more than 130,000 kilograms and provide 20 percent more thrust than the Saturn 5.

Cash-strapped NASA is counting on SLM to speed SLS's development and reduce the program's costs. SLM is a type of additive manufacturing technology, which uses computer-aided design (CAD) files to build parts layer by layer (3-D printing is perhaps the most well known example of additive manufacturing). With SLM, a finely powdered alloy is deposited in a layer as thin as 20 microns and then fused together by a focused laser beam inside a chamber containing inert gas such as argon or nitrogen. Once the laser has turned that layer into solid metal, another layer of powder is deposited and the process is repeated.

NASA is testing the viability of making engine parts from nickel-based alloys using an SLM machine (pdf) with a square cubical build chamber measuring 250 millimeters on each side and a depth of 280 millimeters. These same alloys are already used to make 90 percent of the parts in the RS-25 and J-2X engines. The key difference is that the engines' current elements are forged and then milled into their final shapes. Often several pieces must be welded together to create a part.

Marshall engineers began evaluating alternative approaches to building parts for the next-generation J-2X engine a few years ago. In late 2010 they turned to SLM to create a duct for a gas generator in the engine. "The part itself is not necessarily complex?it's a [10-centimeter] in diameter duct that's bent in a U-shape," says Andy Hardin, SLS Liquid Engines Office engine integration hardware lead. However, "because of the thickness and the radius of the bend, it's very difficult to make. We were having trouble getting vendors to do this properly."

After printing the duct, the engineers set about deconstructing it to study its metallurgy and microscopic structure. They found that although the part was not as strong as a forged and milled duct, it fell within the "minimal acceptable range," Hardin says. "If you made a part [using SLM], the material properties would be degraded somewhat but not much." One structural advantage is that the part required no welding. "When you make a part out of multiple pieces, welds are always the weakest points," he adds. This opened the door for the engineers to consider using SLM to make other engine parts as well.

SLM, and additive manufacturing in general, is not a viable option for all J-2X or RS-25 engine parts. For starters, the printed parts must be small enough to fit in the machine's build chamber. And a lot more testing is required to determine whether components such as turbines, which operate under the most intense conditions, could be made properly using SLM, Hardin says. Good candidates for SLM are those with complex geometries that are difficult to make and require multiple welds to achieve those geometries. Depending on how well printed J-2X parts fare in tests, Marshall engineers hope to at some point use SLM to likewise make parts for the older RS-25, which served as the space shuttle's main engine throughout its 30-year history.

Another incentive for NASA to transition to additive-manufactured parts: their contractors are beginning to adopt the technology in their factories. "As a big customer for many of these manufacturers, we thought it was important that we understand the technology," Hardin says. NASA does not want to hold manufacturers back by failing to create specifications for parts made using SLM or some other additive process, he adds.

As such, NASA's success with SLM could be a boon to a flagging U.S. manufacturing industry that seeks to create more domestic jobs but has been reluctant do so because of high costs.

Voting in Sandy-struck areas: 'First step toward recovery'

David Friedman / NBC News

With debris from Superstorm Sandy piled up outside, Breezy Point residents enter their polling place at St. Genevieve Church on Tuesday.

By Miranda Leitsinger, NBC News

BREEZY POINT, N.Y., Updated at 8:00 p.m. ET -- Many people living in communities devastated by Superstorm Sandy broke off from their cleanups to vote Tuesday in the presidential election, with some casting their ballots by flashlight, in tents or mobile vans. Some voters faced long lines, while others experienced glitches with New Jersey?s email voting system

Election officials in New Jersey and New York made special provisions for voters whose homes were damaged or destroyed after Sandy pounded the Northeast, leaving many homeless and without gas to fuel their cars, and polling stations without power. Some 630,000 people and businesses in the two states, the bulk in New Jersey, still don?t have electricity, according to officials and The Associated Press.

In New York, Gov. Andrew Cuomo allowed people in the disaster areas to cast a provisional vote at any polling station they could get to, while in New Jersey, they could do so by email or by hitching a ride with troops or aid groups to the voting booths, according to NBC New York.

Sixty of the city?s 1,350 polling locations could not be used and voters were directed to others; fewer than 100 polling places didn?t have power in New Jersey, the TV station reported.

Some voters had to fill out paper ballots in New Jersey since there was no power for the voting machines, but polling stations from one of the state?s disaster areas, Monmouth County, reported no major issues, The Star-Ledger reported.

But officials had to extend the deadline for New Jersey's email voting to Friday at 8 p.m. due to problems with the online system. "It has become apparent that County Clerks are receiving applications at a rate that outpaces their capacity to process them without an extension," Lt. Gov. Kim Guadango said.

Requests for the email ballot, however, could be made by 5 p.m. Tuesday. The decision came after the American Civil Liberties Union filed an emergency petition in state superior court asking that voters be allowed to cast a federal absentee ballot due to ?overwhelming? troubles with it statewide, said Katie Wang, an ACLU spokeswoman.

"Everyone should find the time to vote today, but the only people who should be applying for their ballots online are voters affected by the storm. Everyone else, get your butt up and go to your polling place like normal," New Gov. Chris Christie said, according to The Star-Ledger.

Nonetheless, voters in the stricken areas made it to makeshift polls, though temperatures across the Northeast have been dipping into the low 30s, and nearly one million homes and businesses remained without power as of Tuesday morning.

Kieran Burke temporarily halted the search for his wife?s engagement ring -- a day after firefighters found her wedding ring -- to vote at St. Genevieve?s Catholic Church, the replacement polling site just down the road from Breezy Point, N.Y., where the community?s 2,200 homes were either destroyed by fire or damaged by flooding.

?The world isn?t going to stop because of what happened here, and if we expect to get on our feet we have to vote for the people we think are going to best represent us,? said Burke, a 40-year-old fire marshal, who lost his home in the fire triggered by Sandy. ?What we have is either gone or needs attention. But going forward, you know, if we just ignore this process, then you really can?t complain about what the outcome is.?

The Big Day is here: What to watch for when results roll in

Outside of the church-turned polling station -- where sanitation workers had cleared large piles of household items, such as chairs and a child's rocking horse -- others agreed about the importance of voting.

David Friedman / NBC News

Michele Nagel, Tom Frank and their daughter Samantha Nagel Frank, after voting on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at St. Genevieve Church in the Roxbury neighborhood of Breezy Point, N.Y.

?Voting is the first step toward recovery,? said Tom Frank, 51, who is unemployed and came with his partner Michele Nagel and their three-year-old daughter, Samantha, to vote. ?From the storm and then economically ... this is moving forward,? he added.

?The first thing we?re doing today is taking care of this and then the mess,? chimed in Nagel, a director of youth programs at the Fashion Institute of Technology, laughing.

On their minds were ?the ability to rebuild quickly and not have that interference from the city or any of the government offices that might be interested in poking their nose in around here,? she said. ?We want to build our community the way that it was.?

Though lines were short in this community in southern Queens, they were long elsewhere. On his Twitter account, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said: ?Be patient with lines at voting sites ? it?s worth the wait to be part of the process.?

John Makely / NBC News

Nikolas Policastro, 20, voting for the first time on Tuesday. He had to do so on a 38-foot mobile voting vehicle hired by the Ocean County Board of Elections to help out after Superstorm Sandy devastated the area. He voted while the vehicle was stationed in Little Egg Harbor, N.J.

Nikolas Policastro, 20, voted at a 38-foot mobile polling station in Ocean County, N.J. "I feel it's important to have a voice. Everyone can complain that the president and Congress aren't doing a good job, but if you don't vote, then you don't have a say," he said.

One displaced voter heads to the polls in New Jersey town devastated by Sandy

More than 25,000 registered voters were either displaced or affected by Sandy in Ocean County, said George Gilmore, chairman of the Ocean County Board of Elections.

?We're trying to reach them,? he said. ?If we can get to even 1,000 or two of them with the mobile voting van, then it is a success."

"It feels extra important today because you have the opportunity to influence the state of things right now, which is a disaster," Renee Kearney of Point Pleasant Beach, a 41-year-old project manager for an information technology company, told NBC New York.

But for some, the cleanup continued unabated and voting was not a top priority.

In Breezy Point, many residents were clearing out their homes and were upset about the lack of help being provided by the American Red Cross or other government agencies. Much of the cleanup there, like elsewhere, is left up to the home owners and their friends.

Richard Mele, a 68-year-old retired New York City firefighter, was pumping out the water from his flooded basement to try and salvage any keepsakes ahead of the nor?easter. He said he would vote on the way out later Tuesday.

?We?ve got a lot more important things to worry about, you know,? he said, as a generator hummed in the background and while standing in front of a table bearing rare wooden, handmade fishing lures. ?This is my whole life here, you know what I?m saying. My house is gone.?

David Friedman / NBC News

Breezy Point resident Richard Mele, 68, looks over some fishing tackle he salvaged from his flooded home on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, in Breezy Point, N.Y. He said voting was not his top priority.

The water would re-enter his basement on Wednesday, he added. ?It?s going to rain three inches, it?s going right in my basement.?

?When it rains it pours,? he said. ?We?re?down and it?s just going to keep kicking us.?

NBC News' John Makely, Bob Sullivan, Michael Isikoff and Talesha Reynolds contributed to this report.

Food Addiction | Sandis Self Improvement Blog - Bergisaias's blog

    Hello

My blog has been cheerfully shallow lately, as I focus on a drawing challenge and don?t really have much else to say. ?But I do feel dishonest, because the occasional ?healthy Monday? post doesn?t really tell you what is going on with me, and doesn?t explain the weight gain you will see if you go to my weight page. ?I?m moving away from my goal weight, in the opposite direction, and letting it happen.

I don?t think I?m an emotional eater, but I am finding that I am certainly a compulsive one. ?I think about food all the time, and after my healthy Monday last week and a relatively healthy Tuesday, on Wednesday I found myself in a chocolate shop. ?No, I didn?t find myself there, I deliberately went there. ?I bought a couple of bags of chocolates, and was easily convinced at the counter to buy some chocolate bars on impulse as well, which they had chopped up for taste testing and had on sale. ?A bag of chewy caramels, a bag of blackberry licorice chocolate drops, and two raspberry white chocolate bars. ?Many, many calories, and I had them in my desk drawer ? they lasted only until about lunchtime the next day.

Dinners this week have included KFC burgers and chips, pizza with garlic bread, and fried chicken and chips from the local chicken shop. ?This is not the kind of nutrition required by a person who has a goal weight of close to half her current body weight.

Yet throughout this I don?t feel depressed, or even unhappy. ?I?ve been chipping away at my hobbies, getting exciting messages from friends (two babies born in two days ? both a little bit early) and enjoying life with Dave. ?We even both went out into the garden yesterday and pulled weeds, trimmed rose bushes, felt like we were achieving something! ?I certainly seem to fit into a food addiction category of some kind, but I?m not sure that I need to talk about it more or counsel my way out of it, if that makes sense.

I do need to put in place proper discipline, proper plans, proper goals. ?I do need to stop impulsively visiting chocolate shops, donut shops, all the take away food shops that I am completely relaxed about entering. ?Symptoms of mine that do match food addiction and compulsive overeating include:

    • binge eating or uncontrollable eating, even when not hungry
    • eating much more rapidly than normal
    • eating alone due to shame or embarrassment
    • feelings of guilt due to overeating
    • awareness that eating patterns are abnormal

There are other symptoms too, like depression or mood swings, eating little in public, and others that I do not have. ?But this doesn?t mean I should be ignoring my behaviour. ?Okay, preoccupation with weight is one of the symptoms, but I should be preoccupied with my weight, I am morbidly obese! ?What I shouldn?t be, though, is preoccupied with my weight but letting it continue to increase.

It is Monday morning, and because of the public holiday tomorrow I?ve taken a long weekend. ?I?m sitting here thinking about my day, what I have planned and what I have yet to plan. ?What I am going to do is have some breakfast and then write myself a proper grocery list, and plan some meals for the week. ?Part of the reason behind so much take away is that neither of us really plans ahead, we decide what we?re having for dinner when we?re on the way home from work, and the fridge contains nothing but some milk and condiments. ?Today I am going to head to the supermarket but NOT with an empty belly, and I shall not buy anything that is not on my list.

    Wish me well!

    Sandi
