Washington State Vs. BYU 2012: Game Time, TV Schedule, Spread And More

The Mike Leach era at Washington State will officially begin Thursday, but Leach and the Cougars will not have a soft landing to begin the 2012 season. Instead, WSU will travel to Provo, Utah to face a talented and experienced BYU team.

Leach will make his Wazzu debut on national television as the game, which begins at 7:15 p.m. PT, will be broadcast on ESPN. The Cougars finished 4-8 last season but begin the 2012 season with aspirations of reaching a bowl game for the first time since 2003.

WSU is likely to lean heavily on its offense which is led by senior quarterback Jeff Tuel. Tuel played in just three games during an injury plagued 2011 campaign, but he is healthy and poised to put up big numbers in Leach's Air Raid offense.

Tuel will have a great target to throw to Thursday as preseason All-American Marquess Wilson is back for another season. Wilson caught 82 passes for 1388 yards and 12 touchdowns last season and could possibly eclipse those numbers this season.

Game Time: 7:15 p.m. PT

Location: LaVell Edwards Stadium, Provo, Utah

Point Spread: BYU favored by 13.5 points

Television: ESPN

Creative D5 Air Airplay speaker hits IFA, readies itself for a late-September release

Image

There's nothing quite like a behind closed doors briefing at a busy tradeshow like IFA. Creative wasn't quite ready to take its new D5 Air out onto the showroom floor just yet, but the company did let us take a sneak peak at the thing in a small testing room room. As the name implies, this sound bar is an AirPlay speaker, so you can use it with devices that utilize Apple's proprietary streaming technology. We got a quick demo of the thing via an iPhone, and it sounded nice and loud.

The player has a small, square screen on the front that is "visible from any part of the room," according to the company, so you can sit on your couch and still see what's going on, while controlling it via your Apple device or the included remote control. Aesthetically, the single speaker system looks like exactly what you'd expect from Creative, all black, with the vast majority of the rectangle monopolize by mesh and shiny plastic ends on either side. There's also a black line with illuminated white dots that runs down its center, up to the iPhone / iPod dock on its top.

The D5 Air has a bass port built into the back and is constructed from a monocoque exoskeleton to help minimize vibration. It'll run you $399 when it starts shipping at the end of September.

By Erin Minty

Stellan Skarsgard, 61-year-old actor and father, welcomed his eighth child to the world on Friday.? Skarsgard and his wife, Megan Everett, now have two children together, 3-year old Ossian and now a new baby boy, according to E! Online. One of his most famous sons, Alexander Skarsgard, is one of the stars from True Blood; perhaps the newest member of the Skarsgard family will be just as talented. The Avengers star and his wife have been married since January of 2009, and the relationship is still going strong.

What are some ways to keep your relationship strong when you have multiple children?

Cupid?s Advice:

Relationships can be hard work, and they sometimes take a back burner when the addition of multiple children appears.? Here are a few ways to keep your relationship fresh and strong after having kids:

1. Spend some time out:? Alone time is hard to come by with a load of little kids running around, but it is crucial in keeping a relationship alive. Take one night a week to get dressed up and go out to dinner or a movie with your spouse. Hiring a good babysitter could be the one thing your relationship needs to get back on track.

2. Be affectionate: This doesn?t have to be much, but a small touch like holding hands on the couch or giving your partner a hug can remind them that there is still a strong connection between the two of you. Even when your lives are hectic with children, take a second to touch your partner and establish the connection you two share.

3. Talk: Sometimes, your lives can be taken over by the presence of kids. One way to keep the relationship strong is by having real conversations?talking and listening?when the kids aren?t the center of attention. Having conversations about yourselves and not your children can be one way to strengthen your relationship.

How do you keep your relationship strong after having multiple kids? Let us know below!

Ghana ruling party endorses president as election candidate

Ghana's ruling party on Thursday overwhelmingly endorsed President John Dramani Mahama as its candidate for December polls, in a display of unity for a party that has shown signs of division.

The National Democratic Congress meeting came in the wake of president John Atta Mills' death in July, five months ahead of polls in which he was to seek re-election. Mahama, previously vice president, was sworn in to finish his term.

Mahama received 2,767 of the 2781 ballots cast, party officials said. The president, who spoke before the voting, pledged to further unite the party which has rallied behind him following Mills' death.

"The death of president Mills was unfortunate, but it has opened new doors of opportunities for the party to work hard towards the overall development of the country," said Mahama, wearing a shirt with Mills' picture in tribute.

"I know there are disagreements within the party since we assumed power in 2008, but I pledged to ensure that there is unity in the party.

"I promise that the December elections will be peaceful for Ghana to continue to be the beacon of hope and democracy for Africa. As supporters of the party, I plead with you to be very vigilant during the elections but not to be violent."

The party has been somewhat divided in recent years, and Mills had been challenged by ex-president Jerry Rawlings' wife for its nomination in a primary last year, though he eventually won easily.

Rawlings stirred controversy in Ghana in the days after Mills' death when he told a radio programme the late president had been suffering from cancer and could only work a few hours a day.

Rawlings, who had been at odds with Mills in recent years despite Mills' previously serving as his vice president, spoke to Thursday's congress in support of Mahama.

"Your success will depend on how quickly you restore integrity into the presidency, government and the ruling party," said Rawlings.

"I call on supporters home and abroad to join the campaign trail. You should not sit on the fence and expect to be appointed as government officials."

Mills died on July 24 at age 68. No official cause has been given, but there have been unconfirmed reports that he suffered from throat cancer.

The NDC delegates gathered for the congress at a stadium in Kumasi in south-central Ghana, traditionally a stronghold of the opposition but where the NDC is seeking to make inroads.

They began voting on the party's endorsement in the afternoon amid a lively atmosphere, with music playing and crowds gathered outside the stadium. Mahama was the only candidate.

The transition since Mills' death has gone smoothly, with Mahama sworn in hours afterward to serve out the remainder of the late leader's term, as dictated by the west African nation's constitution.

However, Mills's death upended the presidential race in a country that recently became a significant oil producer and is praised as a stable democracy in an often turbulent region.

Analysts say the election is likely to be close. Mills won the 2008 vote with less than a one percent margin.

Australia presses Indonesia on Papua killing

Canberra called on Wednesday for an Indonesian inquiry into the killing of a Papuan independence leader but could not say whether Australian-trained counter-terrorism police were involved in the death.

Foreign Minister Bob Carr said senior Australian officials had pressed Indonesia on the death in June of Mako Tabuni, a leader in Papua's fight for independence from Jakarta allegedly killed by Indonesia's anti-extremist squad.

Tabuni's supporters told Australian media he was gunned down by plain-clothes officers from Detachment 88, a counter-terrorism squad formed after the 2002 Bali bombings and partly trained and resourced by Australia.

Carr said Australian police included human rights training in their work with the Indonesian police but "we don't run the counter-terrorism forces" and there was a limit to Canberra's responsibility for their activities.

He could not confirm whether Detachment 88 had been involved in Tabuni's death but said several top-level representations had been made to Jakarta calling for a "full and open" investigation into the shooting.

"We think the best way of clarifying the situation is for an inquiry," Carr told ABC Television.

"We think it would be in the interest of Indonesia in particular and in the interest of their human rights record in the Papuan provinces."

Carr stressed that the calls came "in the context of us consistently recognising Indonesian sovereignty over Papua, and at the same time asserting our right as a friend and a neighbour to raise human rights issues".

"Even when they're dealing with people who may have used violent means, who are accused of using violent means, our strong position with Indonesia is that the legal process should be open and that the people accused of these offences should be treated with due process," he said.

Carr said Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa had been "very responsive".

Australian police said it only provided funding to the Indonesian forces for specific counter-terrorism initiatives, though it had "gifted" cars, telecoms and computer equipment worth Aus$314,500 (US$325,810) over two years.

"The Australian Federal Police is not aware, nor been informed, that Detachment 88 is specifically targeting independence leaders in Papua and West Papua," it said in a statement.

Crock Pot Tex-Mex Chicken Lettuce Wraps ? Eat, Live, Run

Hi.

I?m so filled with excitement and anticipation right now, guys! I hardly believe my book is coming out next Tuesday (!!) and, on top of that, we are working around the clock to finish up the ELR redesign! So much good stuff happening around here. I can hardly stand it. Thank you so much for your continued support through all these changes! It means a lot to me.

If you haven?t noticed, I?ve been using my crock pot a lot lately. I think I?ve definitely gotten my $24 of use out of it! {In case you?re wondering, here?s the model that I have, although I purchased mine from Target last year!} I just love it, especially the ease of only having to spend about ten minutes active time preparing a yummy meal to eat later. This time, I wanted to develop a chicken variation of my beef carnitas tacos.

This chicken variation is a bit lighter and healthier than the beef tacos {but still delicious!}. And to lighten things up even more, the spicy chicken mixture is all wrapped up nice and neat in a big ol? lettuce leaf.

For these, I used boneless skinless chicken breasts. You don?t have to worry about them drying out in the slow cooker, though, because you?re going to cover them with onion, jalapeno and a jar of your favorite salsa! All those juices release during a nice slow cook, giving you perfectly juicy and spicy chopped chicken by the end.

Yum.

You can use the taco seasoning of your choice here! I am very partial to this easy, homemade one by Rachel, though! I made a huge batch of it last week and have been sprinkling it on just about everything since. I bet you have everything you need in your pantry right now to make it?.go check!

If not, any ol? taco seasoning will do just fine.

We loved these spicy lettuce wraps as a light(er) dinner last week. Adam also threw some leftover tex-mex chicken into scrambled eggs for breakfast! The amount of spice in the chicken really depends on the heat in the salsa you choose. If you?re not sure about spice, just omit the jalapeno and use mild salsa.

Then?.all that?s left to do is??

wrap it up! wrap wrap wrap it up!

and enjoy.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast

1 1/2 tbsp taco seasoning

1 jalapeno, seeded and sliced

1 16 oz jar of salsa

1 yellow onion, diced

salt, as needed (I used 1 tsp)

iceberg lettuce leaves for wrapping

Directions:

Sprinkle seasoning all over chicken breasts, then place breasts at the bottom of the slow cooker.

Scatter onion and jalapeno over chicken breasts. Pour salsa over top. Place lid on slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4-5 hours.

After 4-5 hours, remove chicken breasts from slow cooker and chop up. Place chopped chicken back in slow cooker and stir to combine. Season with salt to taste.

To serve lettuce wraps, spread one lettuce leaf out and scoop about 1/4th cup chicken mixture on top. Roll up lettuce leaf and enjoy!

Despite Jeter's heroics, Yanks fall to Jays in 11

updated 10:03 p.m. ET Aug. 27, 2012

NEW YORK (AP) - Colby Rasmus hit a three-run homer off Rafael Soriano with two outs in the ninth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays took advantage of Derek Lowe's wild pickoff throw in the 11th to beat the New York Yankees 8-7 Monday night, snapping a seven-game losing streak.

Moments after Rasmus' stunning drive put Toronto ahead 7-6, Derek Jeter tied it with a home run off Casey Janssen. But the last-place Blue Jays didn't cave, scratching out a run two innings later to stop an eight-game slide at Yankee Stadium.

The loss might have been a costly one in more ways than one for the AL East-leading Yankees. Slugging first baseman Mark Teixeira was pulled with a strained left calf and sent to the hospital for an MRI.

Talia Jager has been writing as far back as she can remember. As a child, her summer vacations were spent writing stories. Bedtimes were ignored when she hid under the covers with a flashlight, a notebook and a pen. At school, she kept her works-in-progress under her classwork.

She took creative writing and journalism in high school and graduated with a major in English and a minor in French. She later earned her college degree in early childhood education. Writing was pushed to the side when she fell in love and had a family.

Now, with the support of her family, she has several published books and continues to write young adult dramas.

Talia lives in Texas with her husband and six children. Her published works include Damaged: Natalie's Story, Teagan's Story: Her Battle With Epilepsy, If I Die Young, The Ultimate Sacrifice, Secret Bloodline, Lost and Found and Roots and Wings. Dark Promise

Excerpt

My mother led her into the living room. The lady?s piercing green eyes rested on me, sending a chill down my back. My father followed her gaze. ?Rylie, do you know this woman?? Dad asked.

?No.? I shook my head slowly. ?I?ve never seen her before.?

?Rylie, maybe you should go to your room,? Dad suggested, his gaze demanding I do as he said.

?No. If this has something to do with me, I want to hear it.? I crossed my arms and sank against the back of the couch.

Mom and Dad exchanged a worried glance, but turned back to the lady on the couch. ?Please, go on.?

Without taking her eyes from me, the lady calmly stated, ?My name is Azura, and I am Rylie?s birth mother.?

My father, who was always a level-headed man, was on his feet in seconds, his face hard. ?What are you talking about??

I felt like I had fallen into some kind of parallel universe. Did this woman just say she was my birth mother? How could she be my birth mother? That would mean I was adopted, but wouldn?t my parents have told me something like that?

My mother shook her head. ?Birth mother? Rylie isn?t adopted.? She reached over and took my hand. ?Believe me, I?ll never forget the eleven hours of labor.?

The woman sat perfectly still in the blue armchair across from us, with her hands clasped on her lap. ?I know it?s hard to accept, but it?s true. Your daughter died shortly after she was born. I switched the infants. Rylie is mine.?

The wind left me as if I had been punched in the stomach. I couldn?t breathe, and the room spun. I gripped the pillow next to me with my other hand as I clung to my mother.

Silence filled the room for a moment, and then my father exploded. ?You need to leave now!? He pointed to the door. ?Get out of this house and don?t come back without a court order.?

The lady smiled sincerely, her face still as calm as it had been when she walked in the door. ?Please, hear me out. I realize this is a lot to take in.?

?No! This is preposterous! Nobody died. Rylie is ours.? Dad?s voice was like thunder.

I studied the lady. She seemed so honest and soft-spoken. Why would she pretend something like this? Why would she ruin our family if it weren?t true? And if was true, why was she coming clean now? Something in me believed her even though I didn?t want to. I swallowed hard and rubbed my sweaty palms on my shirt.

?Let her talk,? I said hoarsely.

?Rylie, you can?t believe her.? Dad looked stricken.

?I?m curious as to why she thinks I?m her daughter. Let?s hear her out.? I crossed my arms and scooted closer to my mother, comforted when she wrapped an arm around me.

Dad turned back to the woman called Azura, and his frown deepened. ?Fine.? He sat back down in his seat and glared. ?Talk.?

?Thank you. I?m going to tell you something not many humans know, and I have to trust you to keep it secret for Rylie?s sake.? She addressed the statement to my parents.

Humans? Who talks like that?

Review: Skin Cancer Prevention App

Earlier this year, we reviewed an app from Solaveil that helped you to put on sunscreen. Now, we have another app for you. Just because you're done with fun in the sun, doesn't mean you don't have any work to do in skincare prevention. Aside from the fact you should be wearing SPF daily, all those days outdoors means you should?monitor?your skin for any changes. Luckily, researchers at the University of Michigan have developed an iPhone app for your phone that makes checking for cancerous moles easy.?

UMSkinCheck?provides tools to help users identify suspicious moles and keep track of them. Since remembering how new a mole is can be hard, you'll have years of scans to help you figure out if it appeared before or after that trip to the beach. Since pictures never lie,the pics saved in this app can provide an accurate representation of your moles for your dermatologist to see. The only con we saw was that you'll need a second person you're comfortable enough with to get naked and take pictures of your skin in various poses, including your bum.?

This app also has other handy tools, including reminding you when you need to perform your self exam, and your yearly full-body scan. All in all, a very handy app that is free for download from the iTunes store.?

HBT: Lee earns rare win as Phillies sweep Nats

Cliff Lee bested Jordan Zimmermann on Sunday, pitching seven innings of one-run ball to earn his third win as the Phillies topped the Nationals 4-1.

The Phillies held the Nationals to just five runs over three games in pulling off a home sweep to improve to 61-67. It?s the first time they?ve been within six games of .500 since June 28.

The Nationals had their chance to get to Lee in the seventh, only to be undone on the basepaths. With Jayson Werth on second, Adam LaRoche hit a long fly to right that bounced off the top of the railing and came back into play. Both thought it was a homer, but it was ruled the ball remained in play. LaRoche ended up being tagged out between second and third, while Werth only advanced to third base.

Werth did come around to score on a Tyler Moore double, but the Nats might have had a chance for a big inning there.

With Jonathan Papelbon?unavailable?after pitching three straight days, Josh Lindblom got five outs for his first career save. Lindblom had a 7.88 ERA in 10 appearances since arriving from the Dodgers in exchange for Shane Victorino.

Pioneering astronaut Neil Armstrong dies at 82

Pioneering astronaut Neil Armstrong dies at 82

It's a story that we hoped we'd never have to report. Neil Armstrong, the first man to set foot on Earth's Moon, has died at the age of 82 after complications from heart surgery three weeks earlier. His greatest accomplishment very nearly speaks for itself -- along with help from fellow NASA astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins, he changed the landscape of space exploration through a set of footprints. It's still important to stress his accomplishments both before and after the historic Apollo 11 flight, though. He was instrumental to the Gemini and X-series test programs in the years before Apollo, and followed his moonshot with roles in teaching aerospace engineering as well as investigating the Apollo 13 and Space Shuttle Challenger incidents. What more can we say? Although he only spent a very small portion of his life beyond Earth's atmosphere, he's still widely considered the greatest space hero in the US, if not the world, and inspired a whole generation of astronauts. We'll miss him.
