Electrical Engineer, Electrical jobs - Advantages of Electronic ...

There is no dearth of jobs for a professionally qualified electrician and electrical engineer. He or she can get gainful employment in the instrumentation and automation industries. A power systems engineer is more educated than an electrical engineer and an electrician.

Electronic access control can be regarded as a form of control systems. According to an electrical engineer, there are eight advantages to access control by electronic means. They are superior to orthodox locks and keys. The biggest advantage is that they are extremely hard to duplicate. Physical keys can be duplicated at any corner shop, but an electronic key requires a much higher level of sophistication. Superior security is thus inevitable. Another advantage is that locks never have to be changed. This is due to the electronic user database. If a keycard is lost, the data is immediately removed from the database and the holder is issued a new one. If an employee exist a company, the access rights of him or her can be revoked very quickly. This substantially lowers the risk. The other advantage of such automation is that the holder will only have to remember only one key. Since a single key card gets you access to multiple entry points, there is no chance of forgetting to carry a key of a specific door. In the event, a door does not open, an employee can be instantly added to the system by a supervisor authorized to do so.

According to an electrical engineer, repair time is considerably reduced when electronic access control systems are used. Since rights can be updated instantly, there is no need for supposedly bureaucratic delays. Complete history logging is possible under such a system. Every entry to the site can be logged for later review. This can be an invaluable tool if theft or vandalism occurs. Response times can be tracked. The electronic access control can be completely customized by every user. The administrator can set user level access rights all the way down to individual doors and times. Thus exposure to risk is minimized. Site access is kept at an optimum level. Remote "buzz in" is permissible when electronic locks are used. This is convenient when an outside contractor needs access to a locked site. The door can be opened remotely from a central terminal. Another advantage is the higher level of discretion when to let individuals into restricted spaces. Time and pocket space is also not wasted with electronic access. There is no need to rummage through keys to find the right one. Also, there is no chance of a mass of keys to make the pocket heavy.

Fault tolerant systems are much favored by many an electrical engineer. They continue to operate even when connection is lost. All the three parts of the system: Master, Site Controller and the ECU can function locally without an upstream connection. The Master holds the complete set of access codes. Each site controller may contain a maximum of 1,300 codes for its local site. If connection to the master is lost, the access system will still continue to function normally as before.

James Winson is an electrical engineer. He employs many a qualified electrician. James is regarded as an expert in the automation and instrumentation industries.
